There are garden transformations... And then there ARE garden transformations.
This project by R Hoy Building Services Ltd over in South Woodham Ferrers is firmly in the second category - and we think the photos speak for themselves.
The Project
When Reece and the team at R Hoy Building Services Ltd took on this garden, they weren't starting with a blank canvas. The brief was a complete transformation - and that's exactly what was delivered.
From the removal of the original patio and digging foundations for new block walls, through to the finished result you can see in the photos, this was a full ground-up garden renovation. And if that wasn't enough of a challenge, the team battled through some seriously difficult weather conditions from the very start of the project - which makes the finished result even more impressive.
As Reece put it himself: "This one was challenging due to the weather we have had since we started back at the beginning of the year."
You genuinely wouldn't know it looking at the finished result.
What Went Into It
This project is a masterclass in how different materials, finishes and features can come together to create something genuinely stunning. Here's everything that went into making it happen:
Kandla Grey Porcelain Paving - The main paving area was laid using 900x600 Kandla Grey Porcelain, supplied by us at J Gard & Sons. That large format slab gives the space a clean, contemporary feel and the colour works beautifully in an outdoor setting - warm enough to feel welcoming, cool enough to feel modern.
Charcoal Border Edging Tiles - The edging detail is what really sets this project apart. The Charcoal Border Tiles create a crisp, defined border around the porcelain that frames the whole space perfectly. The contrast between the two is something else.
Rebated LED Strip - A clever detail that lifts the whole project. The rebated LED strip integrated into the paving adds a stunning finishing touch, particularly in the evening.
Composite Fencing with Aluminium Posts - Low maintenance, durable and sharp looking. The composite fencing with aluminium posts ties the whole garden together and gives it clean, defined boundaries.
Block Walls and Raised Beds - The raised beds are one of the standout features of this transformation. They add real structure and depth to the space and provide the perfect opportunity for planting that will only improve as the seasons change.
Stunning Pergola with Heater and LED Lights - The pergola takes this garden from a beautiful outdoor space to a genuinely usable outdoor room. With a heater installed and LED lighting throughout, this is a space that can be enjoyed well beyond the summer months.
Water Feature and Outdoor Sockets - The water feature adds a wonderful natural element to the finished garden. Alongside the outdoor sockets, it's a project that has been thought through right down to the last detail.

The Materials We Supplied
We were proud to supply the Kandla Grey Porcelain and Charcoal Border Edging Tiles for this project - and seeing them installed to this standard is exactly why we love what we do.
The 900x600 format of the Kandla Grey Porcelain is a popular choice for exactly this kind of contemporary garden transformation. The larger slab size means fewer joints, a cleaner finish and a more expansive feel underfoot. Paired with the Charcoal Border Tiles, the result is a paving scheme that is both striking and timeless.
If you're planning a similar project and would like to see these materials in person before you buy, both products are available to view at our yard in Chelmsford. Seeing them in real light, in a real setting, makes all the difference when it comes to making the right choice for your project.
